Dear HOS Members,
The first meeting in January of the HPR Executives and HPR delegates voted on closing the cottages to the public on a month-by-month basis. This decision was made due to the big rise of omicron cases all over the U.S. and specially in San Diego. The first Sunday in February, HPR delegates will again evaluate the situation and decide if to continue closed for the month of February or open the cottages in mid-February. Board of Directors meetings and small house events in the cottages will be allowed but masks will be required. Outdoor activities are O.K. House of Spain will send emails to the members with an update the second week of February. Take care of yourself and be safe.
On a different subject, HOS is working with the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum (SDCDM) to create a children’s video of the 500th Anniversary of the first circumnavigation. David Buenaventura and I have created small videos that will be sent to the SDCDM for their review and approval:
DONATIONS
The Board of Directors of the House of Spain greatly appreciate the $100.00 donation from Maria Rocio Summers, President of CRE-LA. Also, Mary Iroz, San Diego resident, sent us several books about Spain, (in Spanish and English, that she purchased during her trips to Spain) to be displayed and/or kept in the HOS library.
These persons recognize and support the HOS historical information that we provide to the visitors and the community. Thank you for your generous contributions!

Presentación Oficial del CRE en “La Casita” de San Diego
En diciembre de 2021, los miembros del Consejo de Residentes Españoles en el Extranjero de la demarcación de Los Ángeles, tuvimos el honor de ser invitados a San Diego para hacer una presentación a los miembros de “The House of Spain in San Diego”, también conocida como “La Casita”. Consuelo Porto Taboada, una de nuestras Consejeras en el CRE, y también Consejera de “La Casita” organizó junto con Jesus Benayas esta invitación/presentación.
Fuimos 4 los miembros del CRE que tuvimos la oportunidad y suerte de poder desplazarnos hasta San Diego para atender en persona este evento: Rocio, Consuelo, Fabio y Bernardo; el resto de nuestros miembros atendieron por videoconferencia, y fue una experiencia presencial/mixta en las formas que nos manejamos estos días por causa del COVID-19.
Además, tuvimos la suerte de contar con la presencia del Cónsul D. Juan Carlos Sánchez Alonso y de la Canciller Dña. Encarna Martínez Pozo, los cuales asistieron y participaron en la presentación, mostrando su apoyo con el CRE y su compromiso con la comunidad de españoles en la demarcación consular de Los Ángeles (sur de California, Utah, Colorado, Arizona).
El evento fue todo un éxito, con unos 30 asistentes, muchas preguntas y presentaciones del Cónsul, el presidente de La Casita y los miembros del CRE, seguido de un foro abierto para preguntas y comentarios.
Y como no podía ser de otra forma, la fiesta acabó con una espectacular paella cocinada por Jesus y sus ayudantes, jamón, vino, sangría, buena música y muchas charlas y risas.
