Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo was born in Palma de Micer Gilio (today Palma del Rio) Córdoba, Spain. Cabrillo departed from the port of Barra de Navidad, New Spain (today Mexico), on June 27, 1542. Three months later they landed at “a very good port”, which today is known as San Diego Bay (this is 78 years before the Mayflower arrived to America!).
